Budget Update 6/3/08!
PUSD has crunched the numbers coming out of the May Revise, and while we will still be receiving about $400 less per pupil this year than we would have received under normal circumstances, our budget cuts will be much less severe than was proposed in the Governor's initial budget. In fact, the District does not anticipate that we will have to dip into reserves afterall!
The school board will be voting at the end of the month on the budget for next year. Here is the list of Revised Budget Cuts that came out of their June 3rd meeting.
Thank you to all PTA members who have been fighting for adequate education funding. Proposition 98 won't be suspended!
But don't go on vacation just yet... keep up the pressure on your legislators until the last vote is cast and we have a state budget!
For more information see PTA's May Revise Q&A or for PTA's official position, go to "Flunk the Budget" on the California PTA website.
If you are still unhappy with the budget proposal for K-12 education funding, please continue to contact your State Assembly Member or State Senator (see Your Legislators to find your representative) to voice your opposition.
You can edit our Letter Template, then print, sign, and mail to your legislators.
For a very simple, yet thorough, discussion please read Why This Year is Different by Jean Ross, a member of the California Budget Project (CBP). The
CBP is a non-profit, independent think-tank that focuses on fiscal and
budgetary matters in California.
